January Blues

Standard

We have been kept very busy during these cold weeks as many of you have been completing work over the winter months. It is amazing to see how prolific some of you are, it is also wonderful to welcome first time quilters, there is some wonderful work being done out there and you should all be proud of yourselves.

We are always happy to be on hand to help with the completion of your projects. We are also working on our own quilts, which tend to spend a lot of time on the back burner but we still manage to gossip our way through the day with cookies, donuts and coffee. We are also very happy when a customer shows up just to chat, the welcome mat is always out.img_3772

Now here is the “Blues” bit, sadly we have had to raise our prices, and you can find  the basics in the Prices section above.

Quilting and Cake

Standard

We celebrated spring last week by holding an open morning. We served copious cups of coffee and tonnes of tea, cakes and biscuits were nibbled and  a good time seemed to be had by all.  Several ladies brought along their husbands who showed great interest in the mechanics of our HQ18 Avante Longarm Quilting Machine.

This was an opportunity for us to show off the machine, our abilities and to let anyone who wanted to have a little go.  Our machine is not computerized we do everything freehand and have a few clever aids to help us.

Our newest machine is a Sashiko which sews with appearance of hand quilting, the finish is amazing and we look forward to learning how to produce wonderful works of art with it.P1060906

February the Month for Valentines

Standard

February is the month for Valentines, and here is a quilt we did late last year. It was a shoebox shuffle, some of  you may know what that means. Each member of a quilt group puts together a shoebox with patch patterns, fabrics and designs and then swap around for a few months. This way everyone gets to make a patch, the shoebox eventually returning to the owner to put together.  A nice touch is when a book is added for the quilters to put notes, comments, weather reports etc., and these make wonderful reading as time goes by.

This single size quilt was simply quilted with a freehand meander and hearts, only through the white open areas, not crossing the appliqués. Very pretty.

Happy New Year

Standard

We are back on the machine after our Christmas holidays.  The weeks leading up to Christmas kept us busy as quilts came in needing to be ready for wrapping and placing under the Christmas tree.  We are always happy to help get these quilts turned around in time for special occasions. We also love to hear the stories behind the quilts and will endeavour to share more with you this year.  Best Wishes for 2013, happy quilting.

“Kaleidoscope”

Standard

At 47 x 74 this is a single bed size.

Pieced in blue, turquoise and mauves with a white backing.

The client originally wanted blue thread top and bottom, to show the design on the reverse, but this was changed to white which actually helped to enhance the design.

Each spiral was highlighted using a groovy board spiral set on the centres.

A plain meander was used to link each spiralled centre with the next.
